We worked on prewriting and brainstorming about an incident in our lives and our response to it. The incident/response needed to be witness or involve at least one more person. We began writing a narrative of this incident/response from our perspective. This story is due tomorrow. Due Wednesday, we will rewrite the story from the other person's perspective.

We worked on our first book talk for Holes. We chose a major character and identified examples of our 4 techniques for developing characters for this character in Holes. This assignment is due on Tuesday, 09/27/16.

We finished the lesson from Flipped. We found examples from the text for each of our techniques for developing characters.

We learned about the techniques authors use to develop a character in a story. Next, we read an excerpt from the novel Flipped and highlighted examples of those techniques. We will continue this lesson in class tomorrow.

We reviewed incident, response and reflection. Next, we revised our story that we wrote changing the perspective from which it was told. In our revision, we made sure our new story had an incident, response and reflection.

We discussed and defined the terms incident, response and reflection. Next, we read a story, My Superpowers (pages 14-15), and highlighted the incident, response and reflection in the story. Lastly, we summarized the story on page 16 in SpringBoard.

We shared our summaries of stories we knew really well. Next, we wrote a first draft of a new version of the same story. To write this new version, we have changed the perspective of the narrator of the story. For example, telling the Three Little Pigs from the perspective of the Wolf. This draft is due tomorrow.

We reviewed our vocabulary. Next, we reviewed the parts of a narrative. Afterwards, we listened to a short story, The Monkey's Paw, and identified the elements of a narrative in the story. Next, we summarized the story. Lastly, we chose a story that we know really well like The Three Little Pigs and summarized it. If we did not finish this assignment, we need to finish it as homework.

We went over our reading plan for our class novel, Holes. Students need to show the plan to their parents. We defined diction, characterization, setting and conflict. We shared our frame poems. Next, we introduced the elements of a good narrative.

We reviewed our vocabulary from Friday-point of view, first-person point of view and third-person point of view. We went to the library and checked out a copy of Holes. Tomorrow, we will get a reading schedule for Holes. Next, we worked on page 8 in SpringBoard to prepare for writing a frame poem tomorrow. Page 8 is homework if it wasn't finished in class.

We defined point of view, both first and third-person, in our composition books. We read the poem, On Turning Ten, on pages 6 & 7, and summarized each stanza. We also answered the question on page 7-was the change experienced by the author internal or external?

We created a web graphic organizer of the main elements of the embedded assessment rubric on page 46. Next, we defined paraphrase and summarize on page 4, and analyzed some quotes on page 5 to get ready to read a poem tomorrow.
